Amazon Prime One-Day Shipping

Jamie Hallman, Junior

According to Mashable, Amazon Prime members are now able to choose one day shipping on over ten million products. Prime has come with two day shipping since 2005, but on April 26th, Amazon announced on that purchases could come the very next day. They invested about $800 million to achieve this goal. This one day shipping does not have a minimum cost, but it is required to be an Amazon Prime member to utilize this shipping option. To be a member, it costs $120 annually, but that does come with Prime and Amazon's streaming service. Amazon has also claimed that they will continue adding products on that list of ten million, and make this shipping more available for everyone. They have claimed that they want to get their customers their products as fast as possible. In fact, in some cities, Amazon has implemented a service called ¨Prime Now¨ which allows for deliveries to come in one or two hours on certain purchases.

Amazon is in competition with Walmart, who announced next day delivery on their most bought items. Walmart does not require a subscription and the shopper can apply the one day shipping on orders $35 and up which some might find a better deal. For stocks, Walmart seems to be the better deal right now seeing as that Amazon has fell 4.6% on the stock market just yesterday, even though they announced this new shipping standard. The company isn´t afraid though because they said they have strategically grown their network to 110 fulfilment centers, 40 package sorting centers, 100 delivery stations, and 20 air getaways for their customers.

Amazon's new one day shipping is indeed an interesting introduction and has the opportunity to change the delivery standard forever. Amazon seems to be incredibly hopeful when looking to the future.
