Anna Leinenbach, Senior
Sharon is a beloved member of our Palisades high school community and without her help, the cafeteria would not be as organized and beautiful as it is today. Known best for working in the cafeteria, few people also know that Sharon works as a bus driver at Palisades. She tries to make any environment that she works in as welcoming as possible. To recognize her dedication to the high school, the Pirates Pearl has named Sharon our first Unsung Hero of the year. In an interview with Sharon, we learned more about her story:
Q: How long have you been working at Palisades?
A: I have been driving school buses for about 20 years. I have been working for the cafeteria for more than 10 years.
Q: What did you do before you worked here?
A: I worked for a furniture designer in Bucks County for 15 years. Some of his work was displayed at the Michener Art Museum two summers ago (Artwork from 1970-1985). I also worked for a producer to help with costumes for 10 years.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working here?
A: I love driving a school bus. The students have been so interesting over the years. I have seen so many kindergarten kids graduate over the years. The children have so much energy. They bring joy and happiness into your life.
Q: Even though you are not required to, you always decorate the cafeteria for the kids. Why exactly do you do that?
A: The cafeteria is a room where you go to have a meal and sit to talk to your friends. I just try to make it feel happy and relaxing. I hope I achieve that for the kids.
Q: Is there anything you would like to tell the student body?
A: A good attitude is so important. Having a good attitude will help you have a happier life. Problems won’t be so hard to work through if you put things in your life that make you happy. Sing in a choir or take up art and writing. Always have faith, and work at loving people. Most of all, smile. Always remember to smile.
The kindness that Sharon spreads through the high school is something the students of Palisades should undoubtedly emulate. Commit acts of kindness every day, not because someone asked you to, but because it is the right thing to do. By spreading kindness and small good deeds, you can make someone day, or simply be remembered as a friendly person. To take Sharon's advice, starting with a smile is a good way to spread joy.
