Cinco de Mayo is an international holiday that commemorates the date of the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, according to Henry Ford College. Cinco de Mayo is a colorful, lively, and exciting holiday. In Mexico, this holiday is celebrated by parties, festivals, concerts, military departments. Foods that are commonly made during this holiday are tacos, margaritas, and nachos. People celebrate by dancing to music and wearing dresses and suits with hats. The dresses have colorful designs like flowers or plants. The suits are old schooled and brown tinted with the hats as well. Military departments celebrate this holiday to commemorate their service and to remember their military victory. Children usually play games and sports with friends. Schools also have activities for this. Activities include craft making, recognizing soldiers, and playing sports, mostly soccer. This mostly occurs in Puebla. A lot of taverns will be open to celebrate this event in our community. Bowman's Tavern in Riegelsville and Wagon Wheel Tavern in Quakertown will both have celebrations.
