Roughly 100 million people in the United States today are in the path of a winter storm watch, warning, or advisory. A series of winter storms moving from the Midwest to the East Coast look to bring significant snow and icy conditions to much of the Northeast and heavy rain and severe storms to the South this weekend. Travel plans will be affected for an abundance of people this weekend due to the storms, with nearly 500 flights throughout the Eastern seaboard already having been canceled as of Friday morning, according to FlightAware.com.
While it is uncertain where the line between snow and rain will occur, the entire East Coast is expected to see significant amounts of precipitation from Saturday night into Sunday. The most recent weather model indicates that snow will start on Saturday night for I-95 corridor between Philadelphia and Boston and transition into a mix of freezing rain overnight into Sunday. The current snow projections for our area predict a snowfall of around 3 to 6 inches, but these are always fluctuating. A deep freeze looks to follow the storm in our area, with temperature projections in the teens and twenties for Monday and Tuesday. So, dig out your heavy winter coats and your shovels!
