Fun Holiday Party Games

By: Lauren Nolen, Senior

The holiday season comes with lots of parties and exciting events! So, here are some easy yet fun party games that will automatically bring that holiday cheer to you and your loved ones. From classic ugly sweater contests to well-known games with a holiday twist, the following activities are unique and a great time for all.

A simple and fun game to play with a group is the Candy Cane game, where each person holds a candy cane in their mouth as they race to pick up the most candy canes from a pile with the hook of the one in their mouth. Whoever collects the most by the end of 30 seconds wins a surprise of the party’s choice!

The next game is the Saran Wrap Ball; this game involves a whole lot of saran wrap and lots of little knick knacks and gifts. This one requires objects and gifts to be collected and prepared before-hand. To make the saran-wrap ball, you wrap the little gifts, such as gift cards and candy, along in the saran wrap as you construct the ball - make sure to spread them out and make the saran wrap ball as big as you can! Once everyone is ready to play, grab a pair of dice and sit in a circle. As one person unwraps the saran wrap as fast as they can, the next person in the circle rolls the dice until they get a perfect pair and then it is their turn. If you want to switch things up and add a bit of a  challenge, try it with oven mitts!

For a holiday twist on a classic family-friendly party game, there’s Pin the Nose on Rudolph. This game is exactly like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but instead of a tail and a donkey, it involves a big red nose and a reindeer. Spin around a few times blind-folded and aim for the right spot!

Next up is a unique and fun way to exchange gifts at a party… Rather than putting all the gifts in one spot, put a twist on the activity and hide the gifts around the area and give all of the guests scavenger-hunt-styled clues to find the gifts. It’s truly a simple way to add some excitement and action to your holiday party and a great activity for kids!

Lastly, here’s a game that can truly get loud and competitive in any group setting: Name that Holiday Song. This game is a competition between guests, and the goal is to guess the holiday song/carol before everyone else based on a few short seconds of the classic songs. This activity gets exciting and really brings the spirit to any party with some popular tunes!

Having a few games and activity options for guests at a party, especially if you are the host, can be a really easy way to make a party memorable and more enjoyable. There are tons of unique games to play; loud, calm, competitive… the list never ends. Try some of these out this holiday season to bring a smile to your family and friends’ faces!
