Whether you watched the Democratic presidential debate on October 15 or not, you have probably heard at least some of the key issues that presidential candidates are talking about. But do you know what the primary candidates think of these issues? We’re starting a series on some of the main issues being discussed and the candidates’ viewpoints about them.
Impeachment
All 12 candidates on the debate stage agreed that impeachment is necessary to some degree. However, some candidates come out more strongly for it than others. When asked whether she supported impeachment, Senator Elizabeth Warren claimed that impeachment is “bigger than politics,” showing her belief that “[President Trump] will not be permitted to break the law over and over without consequences.” Senator Bernie Sanders went so far as to call President Trump “the most corrupt president in the history of this country” when asked if he believed Democrats had a choice other than impeachment. Similarly, Vice President Biden stated that Democrats must act, largely because of Trump’s refusal to cooperate with the current investigation. On the other hand, Representative Tulsi Gabbard has only come out in support of the impeachment inquiry, not impeachment itself.
