Veterans have risked their lives for many years, and many lives were lost. So, we shall honor those who have served our country proudly.
Veterans Day gives those who have been in the military the tribute they need. Originally, this holiday was known as Armistice Day. The holiday was to be celebrated on November 11th, and the tradition began in 1919. Eventually, Armistice Day would be renamed to Veterans Day on November 11th, 1938.
The two World Wars had taken a toll on every country in the world, even if most of the fighting was in Europe. About 9 million troops died in the first World War, and over double that in the second World War at about 20 million soldier deaths. Smaller wars have also caused many casualties, like the Korean, Vietnam, and Iran wars. We should be thankful for those who’ve passed, but also for those who are still around.
Veterans have gone through many hardships, as the moments most veterans experience can usually lead to trauma. Irritability, jumpiness, or being constantly on edge are just a few things that veterans experience. They often have a hard time getting a new job or spending time with family.
There are a couple of ways to celebrate the holiday. Spend some time with someone you know who is a veteran. Whether having a meal together or simply visiting them, show that their duties were worthwhile. You could also write them a card, thanking them for their services. If you don’t know anyone, make a donation to support veterans and their families. If you would like to make a donation, simply look up places to donate to veterans.
