On Thursday, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle announced her four royal patronages; the areas that she will focus in on throughout her reign in the royal family. “The Duchess of Sussex will become Patron of four organizations that reflect the causes and issues with which she has long been associated including the arts, access to education, support for women, and animal welfare,” Kensington Palace said in a statement. All of these issues have been near and dear to the heart of the Duchess for most of her life, as before becoming royalty Markle was an actress in Hollywood and has long been vocal about her passion for access to education and women and animal rights.
The specific organizations that Markle will work with include the National Theatre, as well as the Association of Commonwealth Universities in the UK. She is also set up to provide her assistance towards Mayhew, an animal welfare organization, and Smart Works, which helps women that lack opportunities to find work and support. Over the last year, the Duchess has held private meetings with all four organizations and figures to be working with them extensively in the coming years, especially after the forthcoming birth of her child with Prince Harry in the spring.
