Met Gala

Nevaeh Modlin, Senior

Every year on the first Monday in May, Vogue and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City host fashion’s biggest night of the year; the annual Met Gala. This year the event took place on May 6th.

For every Gala, there is a theme that all celebrities are encouraged to partake in. Last year’s theme was “Heavenly Bodies” and this year’s theme was “Camp.” The editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, chose the theme “Camp” as the new exhibit of the Met Museum. According to Just Jared, the theme and the exhibit comes from Susan Sontag’s 1964 Essay “Notes on Camp”. In her essay, Sontag argues that camp is defined as the “love of the unnatural or artifice and exaggeration…style at the expense of content… the triumph of the epicene style”. Many famous celebrities from different types of entertainment displayed their custom made outfits from designers such as Zac Posen, Brandon Maxwell, Donatella Versace, and many more. Every year Anna Wintour enlists two other hosts besides herself for the event. This year’s hosts were Lady Gaga and Harry Styles. Below are some of the best looks from last night.
