As 2019 comes to an end, we reflect on a lot - opportunities that we missed or took, moments of our greatest victories or losses, moments of breakthrough or trial, and so much more. It is so important that we choose to reflect on these moments because without thorough reflection of the past, there is a low possibility of successful resolution for the future. When we take a look at what could have been or what was, it propels us to move forward in a different manner. We position ourselves differently for the new year when we identify our strengths and weaknesses that were revealed in 2019.
By identifying our strengths and weaknesses, we are able to effectively plan for 2020. What were your greatest moments? What were some of your hardest? How did you get through it? Reflect on your friend groups, relationships, even your personal relationship with yourself, and identify who were closest to you and who were not. These are some key things to take note of before entering the new year. Perhaps those “friends” were not present when you needed them most, which signals it’s time to let go of those relationships as you enter the new year.
After making these ground-breaking reflections, take some time to develop some resolutions for the new year. This time, you’ll not only have a greater perspective, but you will have a greater goal in mind as well. Deep reflection paves the way for effective resolution. In order to have successful resolutions, we need to have thorough reflections in order to make realistic goals for ourselves. Once you have spent enough time reflecting, it’s time to build the foundation for your new year and develop some resolutions.
It is important to constantly revisit your resolutions and reflections throughout the year to remind yourself of the purpose of your hard work in the new year.
