Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Lane Frankenfield, Freshman

It was 79 years ago when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, killing 2,403 American soldiers who fought back. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese led an attack on Pearl Harbor, off the coast of Oahu in Hawaii. Within roughly an hour and 15 minutes, they killed 2,403 American soldiers and injured more. Now every December 7, we celebrate the veterans and the soldiers who have passed.

On December 5, the Pearl Harbor Memorial in Hawaii hosted a live streamed event, which was hosted through the Eventbrite service. This history program included an overview of the battle, its historical context, and later strategic implications. Remembering those who have fallen from this attack represents unity within our nation. There are many events in the surrounding area that have arranged special activities for this day.

Another event people can go to is the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. This event will be happening on December 7th, 2021 at 11:30 am, and a guest speaker will be speaking about Pearl Harbor. The guest speaker will be a silver-star awardee, Ralph Galati.

Many people want to help Pearl Harbor Remembrance Foundations, but are unsure how to help. People can donate money to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. It will help preserve Pacific War history. Donations will help with maintenance to keep the USS Arizona memorial in good condition. Anything will help to try and keep the Memorial up and going. Donating to the Freedom Foundation will also help the organization keep doing the speak-aloud to let people know about what is going on with holidays and our history.
