There are a wide variety of events that people are able to participate in Philly on St. Patrick’s Day! Many of the St. Patrick’s Day traditions have been around since before America was even its own country. The first documented St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Philadelphia was in 1771. For example, the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
1. Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade! One of the oldest traditions held in Philadelphia. This parade has been a tradition since 1771; that is before America was even its own country.
2. In Newtown there is a four-day Irish festival with many fun things to do on each day.
3. The Leprechaun Run is one of the cities oldest traditions. It raises awareness and money for the Philadelphia chapter of Special Olympics team in Pennsylvania.
There are three different runs that you can participate in. The first one is a 2-mile fun run, the second one is a 5-mile, and the third one is a 7-mile. The people that are in the 5-mile and 7-mile runs will be awarded prizes depending on how they do in their age group.
4. Xfinity Live holds fun things to do in the city. For example, live bands, dancing and food!
5. Fado Irish Pub’s St. Patrick’s Day Par! There is live music and rugby games that will be played. If you attend remember to go all out in green from head to toe!
6. Old City St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl is a marathon! There will be live music and food.
7. Erin Express is a bus that runs on the weekends in March. No reservations are needed. The buses take you from restaurant to restaurant in Philadelphia to celebrate.
8. On St. Patrick’s Day there will be goat yoga at Namaaaste Goat Yoga Newtown Yoga, Newtown PA
