RAINN Day is an annual day of awareness about sexual assault held on college campuses on April 14. April is also Seuxual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. RAINN Day is a great opportunity for students to have the ability to raise awareness and help create a safe and respectful campus. This day is not just for college students; it can be adapted for any community or organization who is interested in becoming active in helping spread awareness and educate people around them about sexual assault on campuses.
Some ways to participate if one is not involved in college is to draw the outline of a mega phone, with the RAINN Day symbol, on your hand in blue. This is a great way to start conversations, and you can even post a picture of your hand and include these hashtags: #letsgetloud or #rainnday. This year, RAINN Day has gone virtual due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Just because there are no big gatherings allowed does not mean people cannot show their support or raise awareness.
Anyone can make a difference and participate in their community by sharing this information and showing their support for survivors. Sexual assault is way too common. The number of rapes and sexual assaults for young females each year is approximately 250,000. There are too many people nowadays getting away with assaulting young girls and boys. Every 73 seconds, another American is sexually assaulted. Do your part and help decrease the number of sexual violence in our society. Share your story, a statistic, or a commitment to step up and let it be known that sexual assault is not acceptable anywhere.
