Schloss, the Boss

Anna Leinenbach, Senior

During the 2017-18 school year, our vice principal, Dr. Schiebenhofer, moved to the position of Principal at the Palisades Middle School. To fill his absence, the high school hired Mrs. Schlosser and Mrs. Piper as interim Dean of Students. During that time, they spent some of their time teaching their classes and some of their time acting as the Dean. Ms. Gourley, our new English teacher, was hired to fill Mrs. Schlosser’s absence. Therefore, at the end of the school year, applicants for the vice principal’s job opened up to the public. After a rigorous interview process, former teacher Mrs. Schlosser was named the new vice principal at Palisades High School.

Flash forward to the current school year - Mrs. Schlosser is thriving at her new position at the high school. She started teaching at Palisades as an English teacher then also took over the Journalism courses. Many of the upperclassmen had gotten to know Mrs. Schlosser before her promotion. She is not only an amazing teacher but an amazing person. Mrs. Schlosser goes to many extra-curricular events throughout the school year to show her support in the Palisades community that she has grown to love. This year, Mrs. Schlosser will continue to strive be an incredible vice principal, and the Pirates Pearl wishes her luck for the years to come. The staff of the Pirates’ Pearl sat down with her this month to discuss her new position and to allow the new staff and underclassmen to get to know our new vice principal.

Q: How long have you been working at Palisades?

A: Ten years ago, I started my teaching career as an English teacher in the Academy program at Palisades High School. In this capacity, I was able to enrich students of multiple learning levels and employ the Restorative Practices model on a daily basis.

Q: Where did you go to college?

A: I received my undergraduate degree from Bloomsburg University and earned my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration through Wilkes University.

Q: Tell me a little about your family-

A: My husband, Gerry, is an amazing father and continues to support me in my educational career, and together, we guide our two boys, Jackson and Peyton, through life’s challenges and achievements.

Q: Were you nervous to get your VP job?

A: Absolutely! After serving as the Dean of Students during the 2017-18 school year, I knew I wanted to pursue this leadership position. Preparing for the interview was an exciting yet anxious experience!

Q: What do you like about being VP?

A: I sincerely hope I can help serve as a positive role model to our Palisades’ students while displaying a positive, equitable learning environment which “inspires our students to lead and prepares them to succeed.” I love making connections and building positive relationships with students, staff, and community members.
