Spookily Easy Halloween Snacks

Sarah Goggin, Junior

You might not be able to trick-or-treat for your Halloween snacks this year, so keep on reading for some deliciously easy Halloween treats to make at home! Halloween doesn’t have to be celebrated outside: you can have just as much fun eating some delicious treats at home with family and friends.

For minimal cooking, you can make some “Mummy Milanos!” Melt some white chocolate with a little bit of vegetable oil (for smoothness) and dip the cookies into the chocolate. To add some mummy flair, drizzle the white chocolate over the cookie in criss-crossing lines, adding the “bandages.” Make sure you work quickly! The chocolate hardens quickly once you start drizzling. To finish it off, add some spooky black sprinkles for eyes and serve!

If you’re up for a little more cooking, try making some delicious brownie spiders! To start, you need a brownie base. Make one pan of brownies however you normally would, either from scratch or from a box mix, and use a circular cutter to cut out as many circles as you want spiders. Once you have the brownies cut and lined up on wax paper, melt about half a cup of semisweet chocolate chips. Setting aside about a tablespoon of the melted chocolate, mix chow mein noodles into the chocolate. Once the noodles are coated in chocolate, spread them out on wax paper to harden before poking eight into each spider to use as legs. Use the chocolate that was set aside to stick candy eyeballs (or any circular sprinkles) to the front of the brownies, and voila! Some

delicious chocolate spiders

If you’re looking for a little bit of sweet-n’-salty this Halloween, make sure to try out “Witch Finger Pretzels!” Start out by melting chocolate, whether it be white chocolate mixed with a little green food coloring or green candy melts. Once it’s fully melted, dip the pretzel rods in three-quarters of the way and let them dry for about 15 seconds before pressing on almond slivers as the nails. Finish them off by using a toothpick to etch knuckle lines into the chocolate and enjoy! Finally, if you’re craving something on the salty side for a Halloween meal, cook up some delicious edible eyeballs; deviled eggs! Start by hard boiling your eggs for 20 minutes. Then, once they’re cool, peel them and cut them in half lengthwise before removing the yolks and placing them in a bowl. Add about 2 tablespoons of beet puree to the yolks, along with a bit of spicy mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper. Once it’s all mixed together, spoon the yolk-mixture back into the egg whites and top with an olive slice. Add a drop of hot sauce into the open part of the olive to create a pupil, and add veins to the egg whites with any leftover yolk mix. Plate and enjoy! Although Halloween isn’t going to look the same as it would any other year, you can still have fun and celebrate the spooky holiday with some delicious snacks. Happy Halloween!
