On Tuesday, January 7, while thousands of Iranians mourned the death of Qassem Soleimani, who was the Iranian commander which the U.S. killed last week by airstrikes, the funeral was forced to be postponed due to a stampede that killed over 50 people and injured about 200. The event took place in Kerman, which was Soleimani’s hometown. The stampede was said to be caused by the intense turnout and vast overcrowding at Soleimani’s highly emotional funeral. Tensions between the U.S. and Iran have been very high ever since Donald Trump’s abrupt decision to kill one of Iran’s most influential figures, causing outrage and promises of severe revenge on America from Iran. Threats have been declared back and forth between Trump and Iranian leaders, and an $80 million bounty has even been placed on Trump’s head since his attack on Soleimani.
