As the academic year nears the end, finals and projects are assigned for multiple classes. It is important for students’ health to find ways to relieve their increasing stress. Whether it is managing time differently, an activity, or a self-care routine, any way to decrease stress will help students as they prepare for the end of the year.
Due to the lack of time, changing the way the student completes assignments or studies can aid in reducing the amount of stress. Staying organized through making lists or remaining tidy is important in such a crucial time. Knowing what assignments or tests are due first will help the student prioritize their next few activities. The sense of satisfaction from completing each assignment or study session will decrease the amount of stress and increases productivity. Reducing the clutter surrounding the student also reduces stress. Studies have shown that working with a mess or clutter nearby increases the already stressed out subject, so making sure the environment the student will be working in is clean and tidy will help him or her feel more prepared and relaxed to get more work done. If the prior changes already exist or have not helped, adding new activities to the student’s life may be the way to go.
Even though it may feel that there is not enough time for everything, setting time aside for relieving the built-up stress will help them to get the assignments done faster. Staying active through exercise, whether running or a workout routine, will keep the student energized and increase their desire for productivity. Exercising has also been proven to be a stress reliever due to the hormones released. However, if the student prefers staying inside, dancing to music is simpler and just as effective form of exercising.
Creating a self-care routine allows students to relax, relieve stress, and take care of their health. While students may be physically able to survive each day with three to four hours of sleep and any food they want, sleeping seven to eight hours is necessary for increasing the overall mood of the student. However, the possibility of a high school student obtaining seven to eight hours is almost impossible due to the number of assignments and tests. Instead, taking power naps during the day can help improve their mood and recharge the student for completing more tasks. Eating healthy food relieves stress and helps enhance your attitude. Junk food makes students feel sluggish leading to a lack of productivity and an increase in feelings of anxiety. Staying away from coffee and other caffeinated drinks that make a person feel “jittery” will also decrease the anxious feelings.
Finding ways to relieve stress from the constant school work helps students reach their summer fast and easily.
