Thanksgiving During The Covid-19 Pandemic

Updated: Dec 4, 2020

Covid has changed many of the ways people live and it has changed how people celebrate holidays. Thanksgiving will most likely look very different in homes this year, due to Covid-19. Instead of having the entire family together at one home, families will be using FaceTime, Zoom meetings, and Google Hangouts to communicate and see each other. Families will most likely be eating separately in their homes and possibly be social distancing at the table.

Rules and regulations are going to be put in place. Everyone’s Thanksgivings will look different based on how comfortable they feel with the new regulations. Recently, New Jersey put restrictions that stated only 10 people are allowed to gather indoors. There may be more rules and regulations in the future, since there has been an upcoming increase in Covid-19 cases. Many people really want to be together with their families, so they are trying to figure out some way to do outdoor thanksgivings. Although people want to see their families, they might choose not to do an outdoor thanksgiving because the weather is unpredictable with rain, freezing temperatures, and wind.

Although, some families will not be having their families physically with them for Thanksgiving, they will virtually be there.

Virtually celebrating Thanksgiving isn't what families had in mind, but many things are getting destroyed by Covid - 19. People are starting to get sick of socially distancing, wearing masks, and staying home, which causes families to not be safe. Families feel that holidays should not be taken from them, especially since they gave up so many things for this pandemic. Zoom meetings are being set in place for extended families to get together. Having to meet and eat together virtually is an extremely smart idea when it comes to COVID and the holidays; although some families hate that they aren't going to be spending time with their friends and family, having a zoom meeting is definitely better than nothing. Some families are even thinking about still having their Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends, but are going to be setting up social distancing and will be continuing the rules and regulations of Covid-19.

The dinner table is going to look a whole lot different: people might be six feet apart, wearing masks when getting up from the dinner table, and possibly even wearing gloves so they don't get germs on the utensils they decide to touch. It is going to be a memorable Holiday for sure.
