The annual Thanksgiving Parade began back in 1924. The first parade was on November 24th, and this year will be the 93rd parade. Macy’s first created the Christmas Day Parade, which then when it was changed to the Thanksgiving Day parade in 1924. Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is tied with America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit, Michigan.
In preparation for the parade, all of the floats need to be blown up with helium. The floats are blown up on 77th Street and in Central Park West the night before the parade. Some families and friends come out to watch all of the floats being blown up. Preparing for the parade is most definitely an event itself because there is a lot to it.
Every year, there is a different number of floats, but this year there was a total of 26. The route they travelled was down 6th from 59th Street to 34 Street, and they ended the parade at the front of the Macy’s store. The parade began around 9 am and wrapped up around noon. There was a whole lot of dancing and singing to celebrate Thanksgiving day. The Thanksgiving Day parade this year was spectacular and one to remember. 📷
