On January 17th the first full moon of 2022 appeared in the sky. This moon is known as the Wolf Moon because at this time wolves would be heard howling. It is now known that it is just due to the cold weather and the packs traveling. Other names for this moon include: Ice Moon, Old Moon, Spirit Moon, and Center Moon. This month’s full moon symbolizes a lot for every individual. It is a time for self-reflection, gratitude, and a fresh beginning since it is the first full moon of 2022. The moon will peak at 6:51 p.m. and it is encouraged to use this time as a point of reflection, inspiration, and imagination.

Going into the new year, the Wolf Moon is a time in which the deepest feelings and fears can surface. Most other moons also cause this type of emotional build-up and for this full moon it is beneficial to use this as a time to let go of old negative feelings from the previous year. It is expected that this moon will cause everyone to find power in their emotions for the first time in 2022.

Native Americans originally called the moon the Wolf Moon due to the wolf packs howling during the night of this moon. While it was discovered that this is just because of the wolf packs patterns in travel and the temperature during this time, the moon's effects and symbolism are very similar to those of the wolf. The idea of survival and protection. This is where the facing fears and emotions head on come into play. The wolf is seen as a fearless creature and the full moon is said to push you to face your fears with similar fearlessness.

Although there are many different spiritual meanings of the moon it isn’t the only reason to recognize it on the 17th. The moon at its peak will have a beautiful illumination with a pink undertone. As the first full moon of 2022 it is something that's hard to miss, especially when celebrating the New Year.
