According to The New York Times, Uber is now offering helicopter rides from Lower Manhattan to J.F.K. For a one-way flight, eight minute flight it will cost between $200 and $225, per person. This will also include private ground transportation on pick up and landing. Three years ago, Uber announced that they would be launching an aerial ride-hailing division. After they had announced that the internet had begun to think of flying cars. These helicopter rides will begin in New York City on July 9th. The trip will only last eight minutes whereas if the were driving it could take one hour, and if traffic is really bad it could even take two hours. There is also the subway on Long Island that takes anywhere from 50 to 75 minutes. Uber said eventually that they will cut that to around 30 minutes. Mr. Allison stated that, “Our plan is to eventually roll out UberCopter to move Uber customers and to other cities, but we want to do it right. The main goal of this initial venture is to understand the operations behind aerial vehicles.” The UberCopter will be open to only the people who use Uber Rewards, Platinum and Diamond members. They will be able to book their flights five days in advance or on demand. Pricing may change demanding of the demand of the service. There are other companies who have already came up with the same idea, Uber is not the first.
