Unsung Heroes: The Pirates' Pier Cafe

Emily Scheffel, Freshman and Hailey Diehl, Sophomore

The Pirates' Pier Cafe is the secret treasure of Palisades High School. While they might not have gold, they have coffee that is valued by many tired teens in the morning. The cafe is docked in room 212. You will surely see it because of the splendid decor surrounding the room. When it comes to drinks, the Pirates' Pier Cafe has you covered. They provide iced coffee, hot coffee, hot tea, water, and the winter favorite, hot chocolate. If lunch seems as if it is a year-long journey away, they also sell snacks such as Goldfish and Sunchips.

To keep the cafe sailing as smoothly as possible, it takes the hard work of five fellow Palisades’ students. The people we have to thank for making our desperately-needed morning caffeine dose possible are Lily, Jack, Morgan, Will, and Harris. Lily is a 10th grader who aspires to work with her family at their garden and take care of all the plants. Jack, however, would prefer a job working as the manager of a Tractor Supply. Morgan, Will, and Harris have so much fun working at the Cafe, they would like to have jobs where they can continue to do similar activities. Will, in particular, would love to be a cashier, and he is excited for a job where he gets paid! As a crew, they are the sweetest and most hardworking people you will ever meet!

It takes a lot of work to man the deck of the Pirates' Pier Cafe, but all the sailors seem to really enjoy it. They also learn important skills of what it is like to work at a real job. They all learned how to use the cash register, track inventory, how to handle money, interact with customers, restock the supplies, and overall make sure everything is going well. When asked, they all stated they like meeting the customers.

The Pirates' Pier cafe is a very important part of our school that we all appreciate and without these superstars, it would not be possible. When you see Morgan, Lilly, Will, Harris, and Jack in the hallway make sure to thank them for all of the amazing work to do and make sure to visit the Pirates' Pier Cafe (trust us, it’s worth it).
