Valentine’s Day Decorations

By: Nikki Chase, Senior

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and the best way to spread love is to decorate. Decorations can be made for any room of the house, including the living room, bedroom, bathroom, or any other room. The best part of Valentine’s Day decorations is that you don’t even have to go out to buy them. DIY decorations spread the most love because you are making them yourself.

DIY Floral Hearts are cute, simple decorations that can be made to hang around the house. The only supplies needed to make these simple decorations are artificial flowers, yarn, and an old grapevine wreath. When making these, all you do is bend the grapevine wreath into a heart shape and then secure it with yarn. Once you secure the shape, it is time to add the artificial flowers throughout the wreath. You simply poke the flower stems into the wreath all over to cover the entire wreath until all of the empty space is gone. These floral hearts are nice decorations to hang around the house.

Another unique decoration to have around the house is a string heart picture. This decoration may be a little difficult to get the exact design in the picture but is simple enough to make your own design. The only supplies you need to complete this project would be a piece of wood, your choice of string, a box of nails, and spray paint. The piece of wood can be your choice of size, but they do say, “The bigger the more dramatic it will be.” Also, the spray paint can be any color because it is what you use to paint the wood. The first step is to spray paint the wood, and once that is dry, you hammer the nails into the wood in the shape of a heart. Lastly, you tie the string to one of the nails and then start to make a design with the string as you go around each nail on the wood until all nails are covered.

Valentine’s candle votives are simple decor to make for around the house. The materials needed to make this simple craft would be mason jars, glitter, pink/ white acrylic paint, foam hearts, and mod podge. The first step in making these votives is to tape the foam heart onto the jar, so when you apply the glitter and paint, there will be a heart shape on the jar. After this step, you can paint the jar either pink or white, and after that dries, you can apply some mod podge and add the glitter. Once everything is dry, you can remove the foam heart. That is all it takes to make these candle votives for Valentine’s day!
