World Health Day is on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. For the past seventy years, the World Health Organization (WHO) uses this day to create awareness and focus on a theme that is important globally. The 2020 theme is Nurses and Midwives. This is a day to honor nurses, midwives, and other health workers for their hard work and dedication to fulfilling their job every day. It is also a day to remind world leaders and society about the role health workers play in making the world a healthy and better place. This recognition is especially relevant now, with so many nurses risking their lives every day to help patients who have the coronavirus. According to a recent Newsweek article, over a hundred doctors and nurses have died from the coronavirus.
In honor of World Health Day, on April 7, 2020, the WHO will release the first ever State of the World’s Nursing Report 2020. The report will provide a global picture of the nursing workforce, set the agenda for data collection, policy dialogue, research, advocacy, and investment in the health workforce for generations to come. They want society's support on this day to ensure the health workforces are strong enough to make sure everyone around the world gets access to healthcare that is necessary for them. In addition, the website provides ideas for ways to honor and advocate for nurses and midwives. Take this day to thank them for all they do, especially during these difficult times!
