All American Review

By: Kaya Joseph, Junior

All American is a drama/sports series on the CW network. On March 17, 2020, the second season was released on Netflix. All American is created by April Blair and based on the true story of Spencer Paysinger, a professional American football player. The show takes place in Southern California. Spencer James, who is played by Daniel Ezra, has grown up in a poor neighborhood in Crenshaw, California. He gets an amazing opportunity to make something of himself and further his football career at an upper-class high school in Beverly Hills when coach Billy Baker (played by the famous Taye Diggs) recruits him. However, this decision means living with the coach and his family and leaving his little brother and mom to live alone. What will Spencer decide?

In Season 2, new characters come in and relationships get tested while other relationships develop. This season is full of suspense and drama when Spencer learns more information about his father. Even if sports isn’t your thing, the story is still compelling. The characters deal with their own personal demons and tackle tough societal issues like police brutality, racisim, racial profiling, gang violence, addiction, and depression.

Watch Spencer James balance playing all-star football with his challenging life off the field. Stay tuned for the release of the third season on Monday, October 5th, 2020!
