Boys Basketball Season Preview

Sean Johnson, Senior

With less than a week until Colonial League tip-off, the Palisades Boys Basketball team is eager to kick of the 2019-20 season. “All of the guys are excited to play, and we want to send the seniors off with a memorable season” said senior Bobby Snyder when asked how the team is feeling about this season. Under the new head coach Phil Ham, who was the JV coach last year, the boys feel very prepared for their first game due to all the practices, scrimmages, and summer league/AAU games that they  have been participating in over the past few months.

Along with getting an entirely new coaching staff, the returning players on the team have seen many other changes so far this year. Among those changes is the addition of a new student, junior Brandon Moan, who is expected to be a starter for the Pirates. Also, sophomore Liam Carey, who is set to start at point guard, has big shoes to fill since the versatile Grayson Deiley graduated last year after starting many games at point guard for the Pirates.

A few seniors to watch for this season include shooting guard Bobby Snyder, center/forward Ike Aherne, and guard Alex Creighton. When asked what people should expect from this basketball team, which contains many seasoned athletes as well as some new players, Aherne responded, “I cannot wait to begin my senior season. Palisades basketball has had its ups and downs in the past, but this year is different. I believe we have a very strong chance at winning states.” Some very bold predictions from the Senior big man, but a great outlook on the season nonetheless. When asked the same question, Alex Creighton said, “I think we’ll have an improved season from last year with the amount of talent and good coaching we have this year.” With a whole new look, as both seniors mentioned, hopefully the Pirates can band together and win a lot of games this year.

Come out to support the Palisades Boys Basketball team on Monday, December 9th at Palmerton at 6:45 in their season opener. Or, if you do not want to travel that far, watch the Pirates take on Moravian Academy on Wednesday, December 11th at 6:45 in the purple gym in their home opener. Best of luck to everyone on the team, and on behalf of the Palisades community, we look forward to a great season. Go Pirates!
