When you think of the holidays, family, presents, Santa, snow, music, lights, and celebration all come to mind. However, most important are the cookies. The holiday season would not be complete without festive cookies! They are the foundation of holiday spirit, delicious eats (not just for Santa), and family traditions. If you are looking to spend quality time with any family members, making holiday cookies is a fun and delicious way to celebrate the season, so here are some classically loved cookie recipes to make this year!
Sugar Cookies
This holiday season, sugar cookies are a must-have, but between the wide variety of cookies you'll be making, especially with decorating the sugar cookies like a pro, the process can be time consuming and expensive. Total Time: 30 minutes
Yields: 12
Ingredients
1 stick and 2 tbsp. of salted butter
⅓ cup of sugar
1 cup of all purpose flour
Sprinkles (optional)
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees (fahrenheit).
2. Use a mixer to cream the sugar and butter together until butter is almost white and mixture is light and fluffy.
3. Stir in the flour.
4. Form cookies into 1 inch balls, placing them 2 inches apart on a baking sheet.
5. Top with your choice of seasonal sprinkles, or frost after baking.
6. Bake for 15-17 minutes until edges are golden brown.
Snowball Cookies
Snowball cookies are a holiday staple. Not only will kids love these sugar coated cookies, but all ages love these timely cookies as they are not overly sweet. Get ready for a snowball fight!
Total Time: 30 minutes
Yields: 30
Ingredients
1 cup of all purpose flour
1 ½ cup of finely chopped walnuts
¼ cup granulated sugar
Pinch of kosher salt
1 tsp. of vanilla extract
½ cup of butter, chopped and softened
1 cup powdered sugar
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit and line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, mix flour, walnuts, sugar, salt, and vanilla. Add butter using your hands, and combine until mixture resembles a course meal.
3. Form dough into small balls and place onto a cookie sheet.
4. Bake for 15 minutes.
5. When cookies are still warm, but cool enough to handle, roll in powdered sugar.
6. Set aside to cool. Once completely cool, dust with more powdered sugar.
Peppermint Patty Stuffed Chocolate Cookies
Ahhh, the cool and refreshing taste of mint and chocolate always reminds me of the holidays. This year, amp up your typical cookie game with these peppermint patty stuffed cookies! These are sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients
1 box of chocolate cake mix
1 tsp. of baking powder
2 large eggs
½ cup of canola oil
14 York Peppermint Pattie Minis
Sprinkles (optional)
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together cake mix and baking powder. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and oil.
3. Add wet ingredients to dry and stir until combined.
4. Using your hands, form small balls of dough. Flatten a ball, and then place a Peppermint Patty in the center and fold the dough over to completely cover it. Transfer to a baking sheet and repeat with the rest of the dough.
5. Top with sprinkles (optional) and bake for 8-10 minutes.
6. Let cool on a wire rack.
