Detective Pikachu Review

Jamie Hallman, Junior

Detective Pikachu is a great family-friendly movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu and Justice Smith as Tim Goodman. There are plenty of clean jokes that will keep you laughing the entire time. While it may seem like a little kid movie, it is a movie for all ages to enjoy. Other than the comedy, the movie has a wholesome plot, even adding some twists and turns that the audience could never see coming. Reynolds and Smith work perfectly together, creating a bond between Pikachu and Tim Goodman that the audience will find wholesome and pure. The two characters, Goodman and Pikachu, have a mission to find out who Pikachu was and recover his lost memories all while trying to find Goodman’s dad.

Although the movie does get a bit slow at times, it does not take away from the overall movie effect and it is in no way boring. The slow parts are also very important and essential to the plot, so while they may be slow, it is still important for the audience to pay attention to what is transpiring. There are certain times where the audience will laugh, gasp, and possibly even cry because this movie hits all of those emotions, with the actors/actresses giving an amazing performance. Also, there is no instance where the audience might not understand if they have never played Pokemon before because Detective Pikachu explains everything for the audience to understand easily. Detective Pikachu is a movie that people have to see and I believe that anybody who saw the movie would also recommend it.
