1. Cookie Cutter Ornaments
Supplies: cookie cutters, patterned paper, scissors, glue, twine (ribbon or strings work as well)
Instructions: Trace a cookie cutter onto patterned paper and cut out the shape. Put a small line of glue along the edge of the cookie cutter and place the cut-out shape onto the glue-side of the cookie cutter. Then, glue or tie a small loop of twine, ribbon, or string to the ornament. Finally, let your ornament dry and hang it on your tree!
This ornament is a great way to reuse old cookie cutters and turn them into something beautiful!
2. Salt Dough Ornaments
Supplies: Salt, flour, water, cookie cutters, twine (ribbon or string), sealant spray, and additional decorations
Instructions: Start by preheating your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Add 4 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 1 ½ cups of water into a large mixing bowl. Knead the ingredients for 10 minutes, or until the ingredients have combined into a dough. Roll out the dough until it is about ½ cm in thickness. Get your favorite holiday themed cookie cutters and cut out the shapes from your dough. Use a straw to poke a hole at the top of the ornament for the twine to thread through. Put your holiday-shaped cookies into the oven for 1-2 hours (time varies depending on the size, amount, or thickness of your cookies). Let your cookies dry out for a few days after baking. Then, decorate your cookies with anything from paint to glitter! Finally, to make your cookies last for many Christmases, use a sealant spray to finish your creation!
3. Marbled Tree Ornaments
Supplies: Glass ornaments, nail polish, room temperature water, plastic container, something to stir with, nail polish remover, and wax paper
Instructions: Fill a container ¾ of the way full with room temperature water. Pour the nail polish into the water (if the water is at the correct temperature the polish should float on the surface and expand). Do this with as many colors as you would like your ornament to be. Then, take your stir stick and stir the polish to give it a marbled effect. Dip your glass ornament into the water till the nail polish sticks to the ornament. Finally, do the same steps with all of your other ornaments and let them dry on wax paper. If needed, you can use nail polish remover to get rid of excess nail polish.
4. Ribbon Christmas Tree Ornaments
Supplies: Sticks, different patterned ribbon, scissors, twine
Instructions: Start by cutting your smallest piece of ribbon and tying it to the top of the stick. Continue down the stick while tying pieces of ribbon, making the piece of ribbon larger as you go down to create a Christmas tree shape. Tie a loop of twine to the top of your ornament for hanging it on your Christmas tree.
If you don't want to buy lots of patterned ribbon for this craft, you can make this ornament with scrap pieces of ribbon you find around the house!
5. Popsicle Stick Sled Ornaments
Supplies: Small and regular sized popsicle sticks, glue, paint, twine, extra decorations if desired
Instructions: Glue together 4 small popsicle stick s- the two sticks in the middle glued side by side and the two sticks on the outside a little lower. Let the popsicle sticks dry. Paint your sled any color you would like and let that dry. Glue two regular sized popsicle sticks to the bottom of the outer sticks to create the sled runners. Glue a small popsicle stick across the front of the sled. Glue a loop of twine to the top of the sled. Add any extra decorations to your ornament, such as ribbon or jingle bells!
