DIY Holiday Decorations

By Gabriela Franco, Junior

The holidays are right around the corner, and these three holiday decorations would be the perfect pieces to put up in your house!

Gold-Dipped Bottle Brush Trees:

Instead of going out and buying a premade tree, you can make your own, exactly the way you want. These trees would look beautiful on the fireplace, coffee table, and or dinner table.

Here are the items you need to make the trees:

White Bottle Brush Trees

Food Coloring

Spray Bottle

Water

Liquid Gold Leaf

Gold Glitter Nail Polish

Paint Brush

Tape

Directions:

First, dip the trees into the food coloring of your choice, and let dry. Next, take a stiff paint brush and dip it into the liquid gold leaf. Then, brush it along the tips of all the tree’s bristles (wear gloves if you would like to not get messy). After they are all covered in gold leaf, you can start to add the gold glitter nail polish. Brush the tips of the tree, and then you are all done!

Topiary Ball:

I have never seen anything like this before. They are so simple to make, and these would look gorgeous on the dinner table, on top of the mantel, in your kitchen, or anywhere else you would like!

Here are the materials you need:

1-inch foam paintbrush

Red acrylic paint

3-inch Styrofoam ball

Hot-glue gun

Red pistachios

Egg cup or short candlestick holder.

Directions:

First, paint the styrofoam ball red, and let dry. Next, place a dot of glue on the closed end of pistachio, and press onto ball. Then, continue gluing pistachios onto the ball, placing them in rings and using smaller nuts to fill in spaces. Lastly, display ball on egg cup or candlestick, and you’re done!

Glitter Candles:

These glitter candles would be an amazing centerpiece for any table or mantel in your home!

Here are the items you need:

Set of plain candles

Red Glitter

Mod Podge

Crafting Brush

Clear Sealer Spray

Painting Tape

Directions:

First, take your painting tape and mark off the top area of the candle, so you can apply the glitter at the bottom. Next, use the crafting brush to paint a layer of mod podge on the bottom of the candle. Then, sprinkle glitter all over the bottom until the mod podge is covered. Lastly, let the candles dry overnight. The next day, you have to lightly spray the candles with the clear sealer spray to keep the candles from flaking off later, and you’re done!

Those were 3 great, easy DIY holiday decorations! Hope you enjoyed!
