DIY Winter Decorations

By Gabriela Franco, Junior

The holidays are over, and now it's time to change the decorations because winter time is here!

Here are some decorations that you should put up in your house for the winter season!

Winter Yarn Trees

These Winter Yarn Trees would look aesthetic in any part of your house, whether you put the trees in your window, fireplace, dining table, coffee table, etc.

Materials:

Styrofoam cones

White yarn

White and silver yarn

Straight pins

Dowel rod

Small wood slice

Wooden stars

Toothpicks

Hot glue gun

Directions:

Start off with your styrofoam cone, and use straight pins to attach some white yarn to the bottom of the cone. Then, after you're done wrapping, insert pins at the bottom again, and cut off the excess yarn. At the top of the cone, insert a pin or two to keep it from unraveling. Then, take your silver yarn and follow the same process, pinning at the bottom, wrapping up and down the tree, and pinning again. Next, take the wooden star cut out,  put it on the toothpick, and apply the hot glue to the back. Lastly, insert the star on top of the tree. Now you have a beautiful Winter Yarn Tree!

Winter Candle

This Winter Candle would be an iconic piece to your living room, coffee table, bedroom, dining table, or anywhere in the house!

Materials:

candle(s), dripless are best

wide burlap ribbon

colored ribbon

wide or medium width lace

kitchen string

faux berries, Christmas tags, small ornaments, chains, pearls, etc

Directions:

Cut the burlap, just so it will overlap around your candle. If your lace is too wide, just cut it in half lengthwise to get the width you need for your candle. Wrap the burlap around the candle, and lay it down on your surface so it holds in place. Wrap the lace around the center of the burlap, overlapping, and lay it down again. Wrap a length of string around and tie to hold the fabric in place. Cut a small piece of faux berries, and tuck them in the string. Now, you have another beautiful piece to add to your house!

Yarn-Wrapped Pinecones

These Yarn-Wrapped Pinecones would be an amazing, colorful piece in your house. This can be put on your coffee table, dinner table, side table, etc.

Materials:

Pinecones

Your color choice of Yarn

(No glue required)

Directions:

Begin wrapping each pinecone, beginning from the base and working your way up. Simply tuck in the yarn into the grooves, as required. Depending on the thickness of the yarn, you may need to go over each groove a few times before it is filled to your satisfaction. Each pinecone should take anywhere between 5-10 minutes to complete. Once you reach the top, snip off the tail. Now you have a bowl of amazing pinecones to add to your house!

I hope you enjoyed these Winter DIYS!
