If you love food and cooking, the Garlic Fest is the place to come. Located in the Easton circle, the heart of the city, there are many vendors and unique tastings of garlic to try. But garlic themed dishes are not the only thing to try: the sight-seeing around Easton is absolutely beautiful and unique; it really adds to the feelings of fall. Even though food with garlic is the main focus of the festival, there’s music, farmer’s markets and so much more to see at this festival. The history and festivities in this city are amazing, and they are both integrated into this wonderful festival.
The main part of the Garlic Fest is, of course, the food. Many businesses who make sauces and spices bring their best garlic products. The uniqueness of the flavors seems to put many people off, but, once they try them, most times they end up pleasantly surprised. Garlic breads, sauces, salsas, jams, jellies, breads, dressings, and other seasonings were most of the products I saw on display. The most unique product I saw was garlic jam; it has just the right amount of flavor and does not over power, as goes for many products. There are also typical vendors there, such as farm stands with organic produce, wines, beers, liquors, little souvenir stands, and more. There are typically food trucks or stands with food to ‘grab and go,’ and they sometimes have a special that follows the theme.
Once people have ventured around to all of the vendors and tasted all the food and drinks they can, there are many more places to venture to while listening to live music. Many go to the Easton Public Market, which is an indoor market right around the corner. It has eating spots, produce, and vendors within. If some are still hungry, there are many restaurants nearby. Also, there are many stores and shopping places for everything under the sun. It is a beautiful area of the city and this festival captivates it all while giving everyone the true feeling of fall and the festivities it brings.
The biggest hot spot for sightseeing would be the Lehigh river, which is about a quarter mile before reaching the Easton circle. It is a beautiful river with a great sight of the bridge and scenic foliage, especially in fall with the ambient, warm colors of the season. A small piece of history in one of the spots where people go to look over the river is a statue of a professional boxer, Larry Holmes, also known as “The Easton Assassin.” Easton is the home of a lot of unique history, people, and events such as this, which brings everyone together for a fun, care-free time of enjoying the season and its traditions.
