The popular artist Harry Styles released his second album of his solo career on Friday, December 13, titled Fine Line. Styles truly has a special sound and style to his music, shown by his 2017 album titled Harry Styles, which was the first album of his solo career after he parted ways with popular boy band One Direction in 2015. There are 12 total songs on Fine Line, each made up of unique variety that show off the young artist’s talent. If you are looking for music that can both make you dance and soothe you, the songs on Fine Line are definitely recommended.
Though the genre of the album Fine Line is considered pop, Style definitely tests out the waters and dips his toes into other genres in his songs, such as rock and folk, fully proving his creativity and range as an artist. The song “She” on the album can be categorized as pop-rock, and the instrumentals in the song are enticing and impressive. Other up-lifting beats on the album include “Golden,” “Watermelon Sugar,” “Adore You,” “Lights Up,” “Sunflower Vol. 6,” “Canyon Moon,” and “Treat People With Kindness.”
Each song can make any person want to get up and dance. The feel-good song “Watermelon Sugar” was a pre-album release that reached #1 on the iTunes charts soon after its debut with a singular sound that is not heard too often. The song “Sunflower Vol. 6” has a groovy tune that can best be described as jubilant and blissful, including the lyrics that mesh perfectly with the feelings that the beat puts out. “Treat People With Kindness,” a title based off of Styles’ motto that has appeared on the star’s social media and even his merchandise in the past, is a cheerful song that evidently encourages the spread of kindness. The song titled “To Be So Lonely” uses very pleasant beats and instrumentals that simply soothe the ears, and the antarctic sound in general is profound and different.
Some of his slower, more emotional pieces in this album include “Cherry,” “Fine Line,” and “Falling.” While the song “Cherry” still holds an uplifting tune, it has a calming effect on the listener, despite it being about the sad subject of heartbreak. The song titled after the album, “Fine Line,” is very soft and slow, and Styles added a lot of emotions into the lyrics that become somewhat repetitive. Lastly, the song “Falling” is truly a wonderful illustration of Styles’ great vocals as an artist, and Styles provides so many feelings to the listeners through the clearness of him struggling with the journey of finding himself as a person.
With his newest album, Fine Line, Styles definitely impressed the world with his new sounds and techniques that prove his experimentation as an artist. A lot of growth is displayed within this album, and Styles has managed to make each individual song worth listening to.
