On December 9th, the Palisades Girls Basketball team played their first game of the season at home against Palmerton! Palisades starters Olivia Martin (24), Alayna Stiansin (10), Libby Stiansen (14), Trinity Williams (5), and Sydney Odle (11) started the game off strong on defense, with Palmerton scoring their first basket of the game halfway through the first quarter. The Lady Pirates were soon to follow up, making their first basket with 5:53 left. Palmerton then scored twice in a row, setting the Pirates behind at 2-7. Odle got a free throw at 4:04, making both her first and second throw to make the score 4-7. With 3:12 left in the game, Williams made a three point shot, making the score 7-7. Palmerton followed that up with a three point shot of their own, making the score 7-10, and then scored again to make the score 7-12. Odle had two shots at the line at 1:44, scoring the first shot and missing the second. Palmerton made a three-pointer at the end of the first quarter, making the score 8-18.
After a tough first quarter, the Lady Pirates came back strong. Palmerton started off by scoring at 7:40, making the score 10-20. Libby Stiansen and Williams both made three-pointers at the beginning of the quarter, making the score 16-20. The Lady Pirates took their first lead of the game when Williams scored at 3:44 to make the score 23-20. Libby Stainsen made a free throw halfway through the second quarter, which Palmerton promptly followed up with two points. With only four seconds left in the quarter, Palmerton made a three point shot to make the final score of the first half 29-26.
After a great second quarter, the Pirates were hoping to maintain their lead. Two minutes into the third quarter, Palmerton scored to shorten Palisades’ lead to one point. Williams scored at 5:40, followed up by Martin at 4:45. A free throw by Alayna Stiansen made the score 34-28. Palmerton scored at 1:46 and then again at 1:23. Maura Campbell and Martin both made free throws, making the score 37-32. With just 11 seconds left in the quarter, Palmerton made a basket and got a point off a free throw, making the score 37-35 at the end of the third quarter.
Odle started off the fourth quarter by scoring off an assist from Alayna Stiansen at 7:20, making the score 39-35. Trinity scored at 6:24, followed up by Palmerton at 6:08. Alayna Stiansen scored for Palisades at 5:50, followed by a 3 pointer from Palmerton at 5:25. Palmerton scored again at 4:55, making the score 43-42, and followed that with a free throw scoring them two points at 4:32. Another free throw for Palmerton made the score 43-46. Williams made a free throw at 3:42, just before Palmerton scored at 3:23. Libby Stiansen made a three point shot at 3:00 before Palmerton scored at 2:17, causing a score of 47-50. In a series of free throws, Palmerton scored six points to make the score 47-56. The final score of the game was 47-56, a tough loss for Palisades but a hard fought game by our Lady Pirates.
