Max Thoman, Freshman
The middle of the NFL season is upon us with Thanksgiving right around the corner and the playoffs closer than you think. First I will be talking about the front runners for Most Valuable Player or MVP. The first player being Patrick Mahomes the head of the Kansas City Chiefs explosive offense. Patrick Mahomes had been breaking quarterback records and leading his team to be one of the best in the league and top of their division at 7-1. After trading Alex Smith, the Chiefs franchise quarterback people were scared. Until the first few games of the season when Patrick Mahomes throw for a insane amount of touchdowns and a crazy record having 300 yards passing for 7 games and counting. These crazy stats and the fact that he has lead his team to a amazing record makes him one of the top runners for MVP. Next player will be Todd Gurley III from the Los Angeles Rams. He has been unbelievable also breaking rushing touchdown records this year. Todd Gurley III has lead his team to a 8-0 record which makes the the only undefeated\team at the top of their league and the top of their division. Todd Gurley III has scored 15 touchdowns this year already and could be on pace to break the single season touchdown record. Todd Gurley III and Patrick Mahomes are easily the frontrunners for MVP so far.
Next onto AFC divisions records, playoff predictions and more. Starting with the AFC East, The Patriots lead this division with a commanding record of 6-2 with the Dolphins trailing behind them 4-4. The Patriots have made many efforts to make it to the Super Bowl once again this year. They traded for star wideout Josh Gordon, Josh Gordon has made a big impact on the Patriots and has given a huge weapon on offense for Tom Brady. After the Dolphins is the Jets with a 3-5 record and the Bills with a 2-6 record. The AFC North is a close division having many teams battling it out for the top spot. The Steelers are at the top with a 4-2-1 record yet the 5-3 Bengals are right behind them after the Benglels is the even 4-4 Ravens after them is one of the worst teams in NFL history the Browns with a 2-5 record they have no threat of taking this division anytime soon.
This is an extremely close division and the outcome on who will come on top and make the playoffs is unclear. The favorite is the Steelers with possibly the best receiver in the league Antonio Brown and star running back Le'veon Bell possibly coming back to the team after 8 weeks of not playing. Next the AFC South which is one of the more exciting divisions because of it having teams who are all very similar and skill and also very similar in their records. At the top is the Houston Texans with a 5-3 record behind them is the Titans with a 3-4 record, trailing them is the Jaguars with a 3-5 record. The Jaguars record is very surprising to a lot with them having one of the top defenses in the league. The Jaguars defense and offense has been falling apart in the last 3 weeks after letting up 40 points to the awful Dallas Cowboys and have seem to have gotten worse from there. At the bottom of the AFC South in the Colts with a 3-5 record. It will be very interesting to see how this division turns out but the favorite being the Houston Texans after adding Demaryius Thomas from the Broncos. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the top team in this division fluctuate and a team in the division maybe even be in the wild card games. Next for a division with two powerhouse teams battling it out for the top spot. This is the AFC West. This team has the 7-1 Chiefs which I talked about before, The 5-2 Chargers which have a amazing offense and is a sleeper team to come up on the Chiefs if they slip up. The Chargers have start running back Melvin Gordon and veteran quarterback Philip Rivers with these two stars the offense has been popping scoring tons of points in each of their games. The 3-4 Broncos and the 1-6 Raiders are pretty bad teams and are not expected to make the playoffs this year.
Now I will be moving onto the NFC the conference probably most people are more familiar with because of the Eagles. Speaking of the Eagles I will start with the NFC East, right now even though it is sad the Redskins hold the lead with a 5-2 record right behind them is the Eagles with a 4-4 and behind those them are two pretty bad teams being the 3-4 Cowboys and the 1-6 Giants. This is a pretty close league and I am excited to see if the Eagles can take the lead from the Redskins. After that is the NFC North this is definitely the closest league with every team one game behind each other. Starting off with the league leaders the Bears who are 4-3 which nobody really expected but with the Khalil Mack trade they have been doing great. Behind them tied is the Vikings and behind them are two teams who are 3-4 the Packers who made a lot of moves before the trade deadline trading one of there best players HaHa Clinton Dix. Then is the Detroit Lions at 3-4 like I had said before. NFC South has two explosive teams with the Saints at 6-1 and the Panthers at 5-2 and then it has two less exciting teams with the Falcons at 3-4 and the Tampa Bay Bucs with the same record. Most people expect the Saints to easily make the playoffs and the Panthers to most likely make the wildcard. The last division is the NFC West which has the best team in the league the LA Rams with a 8-0 record. No one expects any team in this league to take the league with Todd Gurley III plowing through any defense in his path. But behind them is the Seahawks with a 4-3 record. Then are two awful teams that nobody expects much from is the 2-7 Cardinals and the 2-6 49ers.
