October Activities

Emma Cosgrove, Freshman

October is all about fun and fall—whether it comes down to baking fun Halloween or fall treats, decorating, or even carving a pumpkin. We celebrate this month to enjoy our fun fall time with loved ones and friends. This article is going to cover fun fall and Halloween activities for you to do during the month of October to give you and your family or friends some good ideas of fun things to do in your spare time.

One of many people's favorite activities is pumpkin carving. Spilling into the guts and seeds of a pumpkin with someone close is a great way to have a couple of hours of fun, so take this as your sign to go out and buy a nice juicy pumpkin to carve. Pumpkin carving is always fun, whether by yourself or with someone else. You could even look up some photos and inspirational ideas on what to carve on your pumpkin.

This next activity may require getting a bit messy. We hope you like to bake! For the month of October, there are so many recipes for you to try and explore. You could buy a pre-prepared cookie pack and just heat it up at home—and if that is your cup of tea, go for it. But if you would like to be more adventurous here are some ideas. You can bake normal cookies, but put special decorations for Halloween on them. You can make cupcakes and you can even make a cake of your own. You can also make Halloween brownies with dyed white chocolate to make them purple and orange.

Some family favorites are going on a hayride or pumpkin picking. And you know what that leads to...pumpkin carving! Or if you prefer, pumpkin painting. Once you have gone on a hayride and picked a pumpkin or just gone and bought one, now it is time to get creative with it. You can choose fun designs and painting styles to transform your pumpkin into something else. Whether you do the classics of pumpkin carving or go full out, enjoy your time with it.

Fall is all about the leaves! So once it is time for the trees to drop them, it's time for you to sweep them. So while you’re doing this, make a fun leaf pile. Get some friends or family members, or even a pet to have fun jumping in and playing around the pile. There’s no shame in acting like a little kid again every once in a while. Enjoy your leaf jumping!

Do you like apples? Apple cider? Apple picking? Well if you do, now is your time! Whether you go out to an apple orchard and pick some apples of your choosing, make your own apple cider, or even just buy some apple cider, make sure to share with family and friends around you. And don’t forget to save some for yourself and enjoy it!

Now that you have some great ideas and ones to look forward to, go out and try them. And of course, there is always so much more you can do too! Getting a cup of hot cocoa or enjoying a bowl of candy corn, maybe even putting on a sweater to decorate your house for Halloween, are all great autumn activities. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you have fun. Make sure to not stress yourself and to get creative with each activity you decide to do! Have a great October and have an amazing Halloween!
