Places to Visit in the Fall, COVID Edition

Chesney Mosher, Freshman

Fall can be very eventful; there are pumpkin patches, haunted houses, and festivals. This year, due to COVID, these events are going to be running a little differently.

Pumpkin patches are one of the most popular things to do in fall. You can go with your family or friends to pick pumpkins, walk around, or take pictures. One very popular and local pumpkin patch is Hellrick's Family Farm. There they have big pumpkin and squash fields, great for walking around with friends or family. They also have a Rop course, corn maze, and a hayride. All of Hellrick's Farm events start on September 22nd, the first day of fall. Due to COVID you must make a reservation and wear a mask whenever you are not social distancing. If you are looking for something a little bit bigger, Grim's Orchard and Family Farm is the one for you. Grim's Orchard and Family Farm, located in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania, is a family-friendly farm that is great to visit during the fall. They have pumpkin, veggie, potato, and apple picking as well as a farmers market filled with freshly picked fruits and vegetables. They were voted the best pumpkin patch in Pennsylvania and have a 4.5-star review. On their website, where all of the activities and information is located, there are no COVID restrictions listed.

When it comes to haunted houses, the local haunted house Sleepy Hollow Haunted Acres is the place to go. It is very family-friendly and even appropriate for children. The attraction is an actual real house that was built many years ago. They also have a haunted corn maze and many other attractions at the site. On the website, where all of the information is, it says the COVID restrictions are posted at the attraction. If you're looking to step it up a notch and get a little bit more spooked, the Bates Motel might be a better place to go. Bates Motel, located in central Pennsylvania, has been rated the scariest haunted house in the state. Reviews reveal that the monsters look and act very realistic and that the attractions are truly scary. COVID restrictions were not mentioned on the website.

The local Bethlehem Harvest Fest began on September 22nd. They have many enjoyable activities, such as vendors, pumpkin painting, samples of many different kinds of foods, and so much more. It is great for a family that wants to get out for a small walk and a couple of fun activities. Due to COVID, you have to wear masks and social distance at all times. There are many more festivals that happen in the fall in Pennsylvania. One of the best-known ones is the Franklin Applefest. This apple festival starts the first day of fall, September 22nd. It is very family-friendly, including a family 5K race. Make sure you come to the apple-fest with an empty stomach; they have over three hundred vendors, several eating contests, and many different types of apple foods.
