Random Act of Kindness Day

Alyssa Burgos, Senior

Random Act of Kindness Day is a day that shows people simple and random acts of brightening up people’s day. The day is celebrated on February 17. It was created by a school for an educational purpose, by promoting kindness to others. Organizations are also included to promote their fundraisers and causes. It originated in 1995 and took place in Colorado, and began to spread around 2004 in New Zealand. Random Act of Kindness Day is now celebrated in all different ways.

Everyone is not happy every day, but there is always something that can change their mood. It can only take flowers, hugs, give them their favorite food or drink to make someone feel better.

It can be from the simplest thing like writing a note on the mirror or leaving flowers for someone to brighten up someone else’s day. Sometimes, seeing a person’s excitement, like giving a child a balloon for free, can be a kind act. People can take care of the homeless by giving them money, food, or water.

Kindness is mainly about giving people the boost that they need in their life. Kindness comes in any shape or form.

Self care can be another act of kindness. People tend to think of self care as going to the spa, or staying home and doing spa there just by using facial care. It can also be eating the foods you love the most. You can even do it with someone else to be able to relax. Self care can be taking a hike or going to new places. Another form of self care can be getting your hair done or your nails or buying yourself more clothes that make you comfortable.

Self care can’t just be spending time alone. There are other ways to enjoy giving kindness to those around you. People can also send out a nice note to someone just saying, “have a nice day today,” or it could be a compliment calling them beautiful or on how their style is. It always helps someone get the confidence that they need in their life.
