This past Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos had their second game of the NFL season at Heinz Field. With an ending score of 26-21, and with the Steelers earning another win, the Broncos left with a loss. Not only did they lose the game, but they lost one of their most crucial players, as quarterback Drew Lock left the game with an injury.
In the second quarter, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw an 84-yard strike to wide reciever Chase Claypool, giving the Steelers a 17-3 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Roethlisberger threw another bullet, this time a 28-yard touchdown to wide receiver Diontae Johnson. This gave the Steelers a lead of 24-14 with 11:26 left in the third quarter.
In the third quarter alone, Denver scored eleven points. Justin Simmons for the Broncos intercepted Roethlisberger, and was set up with a field goal. Going into the fourth quarter, Denver was three points behind Pittsburgh, causing an excitement and nerves among fans for both teams. After Roethlisberger hit JuJu Smith-Schuster, another Steeler, with a critical fourth down play, two plays after, Roethlisberger threw a touchdown pass to Johnson.
Later in the game, Broncos’ Shelby Harris forced a fumble on Pittsburgh’s running back Benny Snell. Immediately after, the turnover allowed Jeff Driskel to throw a touchdown pass to Josh Gordon, landing Denver’s first touchdown of the game. In spite of this, it still wasn’t enough to defeat the Steelers.
As the fourth quarter came to a victorious close for Pittsburgh, the Steelers left with a new record of 2-0, and the Denver Broncos left Heinz Field defeated, with a new record of 0-2. Next week, for the first time since 2017, the Steelers will be hosting the Houston Texans on Heinz Field. Congratulations to Pittsburgh for the win!
