Thanksgiving Interviews

Olivia Olmstead, Freshman

Thanksgiving is a holiday that has been celebrated for over 400 years. It dates back to the Native Americans and the pilgrims. Most people celebrate Thanksgiving by having fancy dinners filled with family and lots of food. Some people choose not to celebrate it at all. People celebrate it in many different ways, not always the traditional turkey dinner.

One person who was interviewed about Thanksgiving was Seanna Spickler, a freshman journalism student. Seanna was generally pretty excited for Thanksgiving. She said, “I thought Thanksgiving would be really good.” She thought Thanksgiving was going to be packed with fun and have lots of things to do. Seanna's Thanksgiving didn't end up going well. Even from the start things weren’t great. Seanna was woken up early by her mom blasting music and vacuuming. When she tried to go back to bed her mom started vacuuming her room. After that she got ready and went downstairs to watch the Thanksgiving parade on TV. Then her grandma came over for dinner. Her Thanksgiving dinner was gross, especially the turkey which was uncooked and unseasoned which made her day even worse. But Seanna appreciates her mom for doing her best. After dinner she threw up from all the chocolate she ate. Then she went to her grandma's house for a second dinner and dessert.

Another person interviewed was Abby Monroe, another freshman journalism student. Abby was not very excited for Thanksgiving. She thought her Thanksgiving would be boring, but she was excited to get to eat Thanksgiving dinner. Her Thanksgiving ended up being boring. She woke up, got ready, and watched movies all day until dinner. For dinner, her grandma and grandpa came over. She had all the traditional Thanksgiving food for dinner. When asked about her dinner, she said “I love apple pie and the stuffing was really good.”

The last person interviewed was Ms. Dantinne, a teacher at Palisades. Ms. Dantinne couldn’t wait for Thanksgiving. She thought that her Thanksgiving would be quiet and enjoyable because she didn't plan on seeing lots of family or friends. She woke up early to start making dinner and then she worked on assignments for college. She didn’t watch the Thanksgiving parade. Afterwards she had dinner with her parents; she wanted to keep dinner small so it wasn’t stressful. For dinner she didn’t have all the traditional food, instead she had lasagna. Thanksgiving was just how she thought it would be—less stressful than last year.

Even if you don't follow all of the Thanksgiving traditions, as long as you spend Thanksgiving with people you care about you can have a good time.
