Pumpkin carving is a classic Halloween tradition. Whether you opt for a more simple look of just a smile and eyes, or go all out with an extravagant, fully detailed scene, the following pumpkin decorating ideas are sure to make your pumpkins the best in the neighborhood.

Stencils

One of the easiest ways to make a detailed pumpkin is to use a stencil. All you have to do for a stencil is attach it to your pumpkin, poke holes on the lines, and then cut by connecting the dots. Stencils are a great option because they are cheap, come in a variety of patterns, straightforward to complete, and can be found almost anywhere.

Holes

If you aren’t keen on carving with a knife, a fun alternative is to use a drill. What you will need to make these cool pumpkins is a power drill, and a standard bit set, and whatever you need to get your pumpkin ready. First, clean out the inside of your pumpkin using the method of your choice. Next, just simply drill holes into the pumpkin in the pattern of your choice. For larger holes, use the bigger metal bits. The smaller bit you use, the smaller the holes will be.

Cookie Cutter

If you like the look of silhouettes in a pumpkin, using cookie cutters might be the choice for you. Before you begin this DIY, remember to first clean out your pumpkin. The next step is to take the cookie cutters of your choice and figure out how you want them to lay. Next, just simply take a hammer and push the cookie cutter into the pumpkin. Lastly, pop the cookie cutter through and remove the unattached pumpkin pieces.

Toothpicks

Teeth are tedious and time consuming to carve. A fun and simple way is to carve the outline of the mouth, and then simply push toothpicks into the pumpkin to create terrifying teeth! This will result in your pumpkin having a gnarly look!
