With the coronavirus shutting down many favorite workout locations, it can be hard to figure out a way to stay active. However, people have adapted to the new circumstances and found ways to workout, even in quarantine. Health professionals recommend at least 30 minutes of exercise every day, and staying at home means you can spend time that you might not otherwise have on exercise.
One of the easiest ways to get moving is by going for a walk or run, either with family or alone. Not only will this get your heart rate up, but it will also get you outside to enjoy the nice weather. However, make sure to wear your facemask to protect yourself and others.
Another great way to stay fit is by using Youtube fitness tutorials. There are thousands of fitness programs on the website/app, and many are geared toward beginners. Find a channel or two that you like and try to do a video or more each day. Some favorite channels include MadFit, Blogilates, and The Fitness Marshall, but there are plenty more to choose from. If you’re interested in yoga, be sure to check out Yoga With Adriene.
Many fitness companies are allowing users to access their videos and other tools for free during this quarantine. Some, such as Peloton and Fitbit Premium, are offering free 90 day trials. The series of Down Dog apps, which include yoga, HIIT, barre, and seven minute workouts, will be free for everybody until May 1, but students, teachers, and healthcare professionals will have free access until July 1. Nike Training Club is now free to use indefinitely. Daily Burn raised its 30 day free trial to 60 days. Also, many gyms and individual trainers are offering free classes via Instagram Live.
While this quarantine may limit our social contact, working out with others can be a source of joy during this time. Ask a family member to join your workout at home, or video chat with a friend and follow the same workout video. Above all, make sure you stay healthy!
