Off of the coast of Ocean City , Maryland around 6:30 pm, there was a 4.7 magnitude earthquake recorded which was about 136 miles away. This earthquake was able to be felt by some in Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. The Earth's crust near the eastern part of the United States is more sensitive and rigid than the West Coast, which means East Coast earthquakes can be felt from farther distances. No tsunamis are expected to occur and no damage has happened on land either.
Ocean City, Maryland town officials left a statement which read, “"Although we have seen no effects here, our Emergency Services Department has been in contact with our State partners and will be monitoring as needed." Earthquakes on the East Coast usually aren’t very typical.
