Army Warns: “Fake” Recruitment Texts

By: Cassie Foresman, Senior

On Tuesday, January 7th, the US Army Recruitment put out a tweet warning citizens of the circulation of fake text messages. These messages falsely told Amerians that they had been drafted for World War III. Most messages inform these people to report to the nearest Army recruitment center for “immediate departure to Iran”. Some were also told if they did not reply to the text, they would be fined and sent to jail for a minimum of 6 years. 📷

Following last weeks statement from the Pentagon, saying there was a US Airstrike that killed an important Iraninan General, Qasem Soleimani, many Americans have been under the impression that a third World War is approaching. Although many additional troops are being sent to the Middle East to fight Iran, the Selective Service Administration, the organization that is in charge of a draft in emergencies, assures citizens that a draft is highly unlikely. In order to resume the draft, Congress would need to enact legislation, a highly complicated process.

Awareness of this issue is vital; Americans need to have faith in their country. Many young adults and children are in fear that they could possibly be drafted, especially with these fake texts circulating. By spreading the facts about the draft and proving these texts fake, a sense safety will hopefully be restored within Americans.
