CNN’s Don Lemon comments on the Kevin Hart Oscars Scandal

By: Nevaeh Modlin, Senior

When recent homophobic tweets made by Kevin Hart resurfaced, the public scrutinized him for his comments. Over the weekend, CNN correspondent Don Lemon commented on the situation, saying that Kevin should be an ally to the LGBT community.

Over the weekend, CNN correspondent Don Lemon commented on the recent story about comedian Kevin Hart’s past homophobic tweets. After the tweets resurfaced, the Oscars officials asked Kevin Hart to apologize so he could eligible to host the 2019 Oscars, but after apologizing for years and talking about this topic for years, he took it upon himself to step down from hosting. After Ellen DeGeneres talked with Kevin on her show last Friday, many judged her for forgiving him and saying he should still host. Many of the public still don’t feel like Ellen was right to just forgive him so quickly.

Recently, Don Lemon commented on the situation on Twitter saying, “Apologizing and moving on does not make the world a better place for people who are gay or people who are transgender, being an ally does.” As an openly gay man, Don Lemon commented saying that “he can help change homophobia in the black community — something Kevin’s old Twitter jokes addressed, but in the wrong way.”
