Christmas is almost here and there are many great desserts that you may have never tried before. Don’t miss out on these delicious treats!
Millionaire Bars is a great and basic dessert that everyone at the table will like. This treat has three layers: caramel, chocolate, and shortbread, and is easy to make with a minimal amount of ingredients. The recipe below is from Lil' Luna.
For the shortbread base you will need:
1 cup of flour
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
½ cup unsalted butter
¼ cup sugar
To make the caramel:
½ cup unsalted butter
½ cup sugar
2 tbsp light corn syrup
14 oz unsweetened condensed milk
Lastly for the chocolate topping:
3.5 oz milk chocolate
½ tsp light corn syrup
¼ unsalted butter which should be cut into pieces.
Once your ingredients are ready, start with the base. In a small bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar together with a mixer until light and fluffy. Then add the ingredients in the small bowl to the large bowl and mix. Spread this mixture into an 8-inch square pan that is lined with parchment paper. Bake at 325º until golden brown. When making the caramel filling, combine butter, sugar, corn syrup, and condensed milk in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir on occasion until it is smooth and the butter is melted. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and stir occasionally until it thickens and turns to the color amber. Put this over the shortbread and once cooled, put the pan in your fridge for a few hours. The last step, making the chocolate glaze, is the most basic. Heat butter and corn syrup in a small saucepan until melted. When melted, remove from heat and add the chocolate, stirring until melted. Right away, pour the chocolate glaze over the filling. Chill the dish before cutting and serving.
The next, and final, festive dessert is coconut macaroons. Cookies have been baked for centuries and there is a variety of them, but these coconut macaroons are one of the best. The recipe below is from Real Simple.
To make these cookies you will need:
3 large egg whites
½ cup sugar
½ tsp pure vanilla extract
¼ tsp kosher salt
1 14-ounce package sweetened shredded coconut
First, heat your oven to 325° and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Whisk your three egg whites, sugar, salt, and vanilla in a medium bowl until the mixture is glossy and the sugar is almost dissolved. Fold in the coconut and stir until evenly combined. When your batter is ready, use a small ice cream scoop to put your cookies on the sheet. They should be about two tablespoons and one inch apart on the sheets. Put in the oven and bake until golden brown, for 20-25 minutes. While baking, rotate the sheets halfway through. Let them cool completely before serving and eating.
