American gymnast Aly Raisman confirmed on social media Tuesday that she will not be competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics this July. The 25-year-old was the captain of the USA gymnastics "Fierce Five" in the 2012 London Olympics as well as the "Final Five" in 2016 Rio Olympics. Raisman earned six total Olympic medals. In 2012 she won two gold medals in the team event and floor exercise and a bronze medal on balance beam. In 2016 she earned a gold in the team event and two silver medals in the individual all-around and the floor exercise. She claims this decision comes from wanting to take time and reflect on her past achievements. Raisman came forward about the sexual assault allegations against ex USA gymnastics team physician Larry Nassar along with many other American gymnasts. Raisman uses her influence to empower women and has the goal of making gymnastics safer for young girls. Wishing her the best of luck in her future!📷
