Kobe Bryant: Update and Public Service

Kenzie Connolly, Junior

As everyone knows, NBA star Kobe Bryant, along with eight others, passed away in a helicopter crash early on January 26th. This event left thousands of people devastated with the loss of Byrant. His wife has been posting somewhat frequently about the loss of her daughter and husband.

Her last post was on Valentines day, which was aimed more towards Kobe than her daughter Gianna. His wife, Vanessa, has been spreading the awareness of the Mamba Sports Foundation recently in honor to carry out Kobe and Gianna’s legacy, as she put it.

Kobe and Gianna were both buried in California and more specifically in Pacific View Memorial Park, in Corona Del Mar. The exact location of where they were buried has not been released and probably will not be released out of respecting the privacy of their family. Their burial took place on February 7th and there was also a private service held.

In a more updated manner, there is going to be a public service, a celebration of life, held for Kobe Bryant and the eight others killed in the helicopter crash. This celebration is going to be held on February 24 and is open to anyone and everyone. The celebration of life will be held at the Staples center in California, this is where Kobe played professional basketball for the Lakers for a total of 20 years.

Vanessa Bryant just recently shared a post confirming the date of the public memorial. She posted a picture with yellow and purple butterflies, the colors of Kobe’s Lakers uniform, along with the time the event is starting which is 10 a.m.

Beyonce started the celebration of life by singing “XO” which she said to be one of Kobe’s favorite songs. The event held over 20,000 people to say their final goodbyes to Gianna and Kobe Bryant. Vanessa Bryant read heartfelt words about her husband and daughter. Countless celebrities attended and thousands of fans also came. It was reported that 80,000 people had applied for tickets and not everyone got in, but all of the proceeds went to, Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation. There were many tears shed and stories told, and it was a very emotional day. .
