Man Survives 9/11 but Dies in Terrorist Attack

Brynn Keyser, Freshman

According to USAToday, Jason Spindler was one of 21 people killed on Tuesday when a gunman fired at the DustitD2 Complex in the Kenyan capital. The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab terrorist group took credit for this attack. Spindler was the CEO and managing director of I-DEV International. He was also a former Peace Corps volunteer.

On September 11, 2001, Spindler was working at a financial firm at the World Trade Center. That morning, he was running late, and barely missed getting crushed or killed by the first of the Twin Towers. It is reported that he became covered in dust and debris when he tried to assist others.

Jason’s brother wrote this on Facebook after his brother’s death. “It is with a heavy heart that I have to report that my brother Jason Spindler passed away this morning during a terror attack in Nairobi, Kenya, Jason was a survivor of 9-11 and a fighter. I am sure he gave them hell!”. Robert Palladino, deputy spokesman at the State Department said on Wednesday, "These craven attacks are a stark reminder of why the United States remains resolved in our fight to defeat terrorism".
