According to Tara Law, a writer for Time Magazine, a doctor working at the Cleveland Clinic Academic Medical Center in Ohio was recently fired after she posted racist tweets targeting Jewish people. Lara Kollab, the first-year resident at the Cleveland Clinic, is now fired after the Canary Mission website exposed her harsh tweets. The Canary Mission Website is a website that contains any posted on material on social media that supports hatred towards Jewish people on college campuses in North America. Some of her tweets joked about the Holocaust and even went as far as to call Jewish people “dogs”. In January 2012, Kollab tweeted, ““I’ll purposely give all the yahood the wrong meds.” Yahood or “yahud” is the Arabic word for Jewish People.
Since these tweets were found, the Cleveland Clinic has released many statements regarding their opinion on this individual and her actions. They stated, “This individual was employed as a supervised, first-year resident at our hospital from July to September 2018. When we learned of the social media post, we took immediate action, conducted an internal review and placed her on administrative leave. Her departure was related to those posts and she has not worked at Cleveland Clinic since September. For first-year residents, multiple safeguards and direct supervision are required for patient care and prescribing medicine. In addition, there have been no reports of any patient harm related to her work during the time she was here. In no way do these beliefs reflect those of our organization. We fully embrace diversity, inclusion and a culture of safety and respect across our entire health system.”
